Mohamed Shoieb Abdelgawad is a postdoctoral researcher in the lab. He did his PhD at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) in Japan, where he studied the elastic behavior of yield stress fluids and how their complex rheology governs flow behavior in different configurations, including turbulent flow and flow in microchannels. His current research focuses on understanding and controlling elastic flow instabilities of polymer solutions and how these can be harnessed to enhance transport, mixing, and other key processes in complex environments.

Outside the lab, Mohamed enjoys playing and watching football (the kind played with feet and a round ball—he still refuses to call it soccer!), exploring new hiking trails, and watching science or nature documentaries.
